New York Families

Thank you for visiting Blue Star's website. We have received a great deal of interest in Blue Star from the Tri-State area especially New York. For over sixty years Jewish campers from the Northeast have enjoyed Blue Star's brand of Summer Magic. Families who are just discovering Blue Star are almost always pleasantly surprised by the warmth, sophistication, professionalism and of course amazing value of our Camp! Blue Star is highly respected around the world and has been the focus of the Popkin family for three generations.

The cool mountains of Western North Carolina have an abundance of unspoiled natural beauty, and for almost a hundred years the official home of dozens of America's most famous private camps. Asheville N.C. is the cultural center of our area with gourmet restaurants, galleries exhibiting the work of our renowned artist and craftspeople, four star hotels, summer stock theaters, music centers, the world famous Penland School of Crafts, and of course the Biltmore House, America's largest home. Western North Carolina excels at welcoming and hosting visitors, summer campers, residents with second homes and retirees. During the past twenty years we have become one of the most popular areas in the U.S. for people seeking a lifestyle that includes cultural variety and natural beauty.

On a practical level, Continental Airlines flies non-stop twice a day between Asheville and Newark. The Asheville Airport is only twenty miles from Blue Star's front door. We will escort, with a mature adult, groups of ten or more campers.  Parents should know that Mission Memorial Hospital a Level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital for the University of North Carolina medical school can be reached quickly if necessary. Blue Star is 2500 feet above sea level so mosquitoes are not a problem, and fortunately deer ticks are not an issue either. We are very active in our professional organization, and two of our Directors have recently served as National President and National Treasurer of the American Camp Association.

After exploring our website we hope you will email us to arrange a conversation to discuss Blue Star and your family.
