Living Judaism: Summer Camp and Jewish Culture
Celebrating Our Identity And TraditionsView Living Judaism Slideshow
Blue Star campers are immersed in a vibrant culture of living Judaism. Shabbat dinners and Friday night and Saturday morning services are spiritual, creative, and camper-led. All aspects of our programs are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all campers. By weaving Jewish values, culture and traditions into the tapestry of camp, we help campers to connect to their own identity and the larger Jewish community.
Cultivating Jewish Values
Ensuring that campers learn and experience the values that make the Jewish religion and culture unique is a main focus of our Living Judaism program. Developing campers' commitment to social justice and to making the world a better place, as well as helping them to recognize and feel connected to their Jewish "peoplehood," are core ideals we try to pass on to campers. K'lal Israel is also something we value deeply at camp. Blue Star is a warm, inclusive Jewish camp community where campers of every denomination feel comfortable and welcome. Blue Star observes Jewish dietary laws and offers Hebrew and Bar/Bat Mitzvah lessons.
Repairing the world is a central Blue Star value. We create opportunities for campers to give to others, both in our Jewish camp community and in the world outside of camp. Campers learn about important social issues, develop empathy and participate in Tzedakah and service projects. We believe that helping campers to realize that they have something unique, special and positive to offer will inspire them to make the world a better place.
